Lella & Massimo Vignelli

Lella and Massimo Vignelli are a married couple of industrial designers. Massimo was born in Milan in 1931 and studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, and then continued his studies at the Milan Polytechnic and the University of Venice. Lella, on the other hand, was born in Udine in 1934 and studied architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and at the University of Venice. After marrying in 1957, Lella and Massimo established their own studio in 1960 and in 1965, after moving to Chicago, Unimark International with six other designers. In 1971, the couple founded Vignelli Associates (later known as Vignelli Designs) in New York, where they worked until 2014, the year of Massimo's death.
