The Beetle Chair is the result of the work of GamFratesi Studio. Founded in 2006 by the Danish architect Stine Gam (born in 1975) and the Italian architect Enrico Fratesi (born in 1978), GamFratesi Studio represents the latest generation of “furniture architects”. Together they focused on a new design interpretation born from tradition and international design. GamFratesi aim to create furniture that illustrates the process and the techniques that created it, and which reflect a persistent exploration of the diverse border zone between harmony and disharmony.
The Beetle chair, now increasingly iconic, also comes from this philosophy:
“We first found inspiration in the anatomy and aesthetic of the beetle. We reinterpret the beetle’s hard and characteristic shell and structure in a chair that, like an actual beetle, has a hard exterior and a soft interior. This insect has a very delicate form, but with an important functional aspect.”
GamFratesi’s design takes its creative drive from a fusion of tradition and renewal and in an experimental approach to their chosen materials and techniques. With their diverse traditional background, they draw on the classic Danish furniture and craft tradition as well as the timeless Italian intellectual and conceptual approach.
