Matthew Hilton is a British designer of modern furniture and lighting. Born in Hastings in 1957, he attended Portsmouth College of Art and then Kingston Polytechnic in London, graduating in 1979. After graduation he began experimenting with the field of industrial design and model making. Hilton's furniture is built with the belief in creating furnishings that people can live with. Between 2000 and 2004 the designer was Head of Furniture design for Habitat, and some of his furniture has been exhibited in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 2005 he was also elected as Royal Designer of Industry. In 2007 Matthew launched his own, eponymous furniture and design brand that features primarily solid woodwork. His style includes high-quality items with a strong sculptural personality and contemporary elegance. Today the brand is produced by De La Espada Group, a Portuguese company.
