Description-

Historical icon of modern design, the Wishbone Chair is the first model designed by Hans J. Wegner exclusively for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1949. The backrest and the armrest merge into a single piece, and to ensure greater comfort Wegner creates the characteristic Y-shaped backrest. More than 100 steps are required for its production, many of which are done by hand. A resistant chair with an elegant and unique shape. Right of withdrawal not applicable.

Brand

Carl Hansen & Søn

Carl Hansen founded his company on the firm belief that fine craftsmanship and mass production could go hand in hand, thus guaranteeing the end consumer a high-quality product at a reasonable price. Even today, this simple but important idea underlies Carl Hansen & Søn's production, which combines state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies with traditional woodworking techniques. Much of the furniture produced today was designed by some of Denmark's greatest architects between the 1930s and 1960s.

Designer

Hans J. Wegner

Hans J. Wegner, born in 1914 in Tønder, is considered one of the greatest representatives of modern Danish design. At only 14 years of age he began working as an apprentice to a Danish cabinetmaker. In 1938 Wegner, after being approached by Arne Jacobsen and Erik Møller, designed furniture for the new town hall in Aarhus. After other collaborations with Jacobsen, Wegner went out on his own, often working together with Børge Mogensen. His commercial success, however, was due to his collaboration with the Carl Hansen & Søn brand, for which he designed several pieces of furniture, such as the world-famous Wishbone Chair, still in production today.
