Evoking scrolled natural forms - from botanical to nautical - designer Sebastian Herkner draws on Rakumba’s heritage of textile lampshade craftmanship to create the Volute collection. Herkner challenges skills honed over time with new lampshade geometries previously considered near impossible. Leveraging Rakumba’s design ethos of “effortless complexity”, Volute pushes craft to its limits, delivering distinguished contemporary presence with the softness of fabric.
Rakumba
Fondata nel 1968, Rakumba è un'azienda d'illuminazione con sede a Melbourne. I loro design prendono ispirazione dalla cultura aborigena ed europea, come a sottolineare il background multiculturale australiano. Sebastian Herkner
Sebastian Herkner, born 1981, is a German designer. He studied product design at the HfG Offenbach University of Art and Design where he began to dedicate himself to the design of furniture and objects, experimenting with new technologies combined with artisanal work. He develops a keen sense for materials, colors and textures which he takes care of in every detail. In 2006 he opened his first studio and began collaborations with important international companies such as ClassiCon, GUBI, Pulpo and Zanotta. Herkner also creates interior architecture projects, museum and exhibition installations. His works and talent have been rewarded with various awards such as the Iconic Award and the Elle Deco International Design Award and finally in 2011 he was awarded the German Design Award for the debut category.
