Bruno Mathsson

Bruno Mathsson (1907–1988) was a Swedish architect and designer, known for his functionalist and modernist approach to furniture design. The son of a master carpenter, Mathsson learned the art of woodworking in the family workshop in Värnamo. In the 1930s, he developed innovative techniques for making bentwood chairs with woven hemp fabric seats, introducing ergonomic concepts into design. Among his most famous creations are the "Eva" chair (1935) and the "Pernilla" chaise longue (1934). His collaboration with Danish mathematician Piet Hein led to the design of the "Super-Ellipse" table in 1966. Mathsson's works are exhibited in international museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
