The Architecture of Memory

This Milan residence, animated by the client's thoughtful collection of twentieth-century design, called for something rare: not the bold gesture of replacement, but the tender art of conversation—a selection of pieces that would honor what already lived within these walls while gently pushing the dialogue forward.

The entrance announces the sensibility immediately. A custom Dandy wardrobe by Lema stands beside an "M" table, Angelo Mangiarotti's 1969 meditation on marble as furnishing material. The table feels almost archaeological: a moment when modernist severity softened into something more voluptuous, more humane. Marble, after all, is a material that remembers.

The living room holds several conversations simultaneously, each carefully orchestrated.

Mario Bellini's Camaleonda curves beside Franco Albini's restrained PL19 armchair and George Nakashima's organic wooden cabinet, extending their conversation toward something warmer and more embracing.

Opposite, Jonas Wagell's Julep sofa for Tacchini designed in 2018 yet drawing inspiration from 1950s avant-garde aesthetics, arrives with soft, enveloping forms. It is grounded by Gianfranco Frattini's Model 836 armchairs and a bench by Jean Prouvé. The light is diffused through Davide Groppi's SAMPEI lamps, creating an atmosphere of contemplation.

In the bedroom Antoni Citterio's Backstage storage for BB Italia brings both utility and poetry. It rests beside Patrizia Urquola's bio-mbo bed for Cassina, a design that marries ergonomic intelligence with sculptural form. Beneath them, a carpet by Pretziada grounds the space in texture and warmth.

The dining room is where curation reveals its deepest purpose—the creation of spaces for human connection.

Porro's Materic Ovale table is surrounded by Patrizia Urquiola's Dudet chairs for Cassina, illuminated by De Padova's Bombori lamp. To the side, Gallotti & Radice's Diedro storage balances display and discretion. The vintage Edward Wormley Janus sofa for Dunbar rests on Mae Engelgeer's Bliss Ultimate rug from cc-tapis, its sculptural forms anchoring the room. A Porro bookshelf completes the narrative.
