The Freeform Sofa, designed by Isamu Noguchi in 1946 and reissued by Vitra, has organic and sinuous lines inspired by nature. Composed of a sofa and a matching pouf, it stands out for its fluid form and visual lightness, combining sculpture and functionality in a timeless design.
Vitra
Founded in the 1950s, Vitra is a Swiss company committed to improving the quality of the environment in homes, offices and public spaces through the use of design. The products in its collections are developed through a long design process that combines engineering excellence with the creative genius of some of the most renowned designers on the international scene. Among the fundamental principles underlying the company are durability and aesthetics, essential characteristics found in all products.
Isamu Noguchi, born in Los Angeles in 1904, was an American architect, designer, sculptor and set designer of Japanese descent. He studied at Columbia University and in China to pursue his studies in brush drawing and in Japan for those in clay work. After the war, he came into contact with Ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging, which gave him an interest in Zen gardens and an openness to monumental art. He was a world-renowned designer of public spaces.
