The OW58 T-Chair, designed by Ole Wanscher in 1958, is an elegant chair with a T-shaped backrest that blends harmoniously with the rear legs. With a light and refined design, it offers comfortable upholstered seating, ideal for the dining room. In the relaunch by Carl Hansen & Søn, the height has been slightly increased to improve ergonomics without altering the original aesthetics.
Carl Hansen & Søn
Carl Hansen founded his company on the firm belief that high-quality craftsmanship and mass production could go hand in hand, thus guaranteeing the end consumer a high-quality product at a reasonable price. Even today, this simple but important idea is the basis of Carl Hansen & Søn's production, which combines cutting-edge production technologies with traditional woodworking techniques. Much of the furniture produced today was designed by some of Denmark's greatest architects between the 1930s and 1960s.
Ole Wanscher (1903-1985) was a protagonist of Danish modern design, known for his refined aesthetics and the functionality of his furniture. A student of Kaare Klint, he worked in his studio before becoming an independent designer and later a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. His creations, elegant and timeless, are still appreciated for their quality and attention to detail. Inspired by his travels in Egypt and Europe, Wanscher combined different influences in an essential and harmonious style, considering furniture design as an extension of architecture. Among his iconic pieces stand out the Colonial Chair and the Colonial Sofa. Between the 1940s and 1960s, he designed functional and accessible furniture, combining craftsmanship and industrial production. His work earned him prestigious awards, including the gold medal at the Milan Triennale in 1960, confirming him as a leading figure in international design.
